Roman Road Chardonnay Launch Friday 23rd June

We are very excited to be able to sell Simpsons Wine Estate Roman Road Chardonnay 2016 to our customers by the bottle (rather than the case) and what is more, loyalty card holders will receive an extra 2 loyalty stamps for each bottle they buy over the course of the weekend 23rd to 25th June.

This is an exclusive wine with a limited availability as only 680 bottles were produced from the harvest in October 2016! Bottles of this truly local wine are retailing at £22.50 per bottle and can only be bought in the store.

Simpsons Wine Estate have planted almost all the vines on their two vineyards totally 90 acres in area.  The Barham area was chosen for its soil type which is identical to that found in the Champagne region of France. The Roman Road Vineyard, along the old Roman Dover to London road, is 30 acres in size and is situated behind the church and inside Rectory Lane.  The vineyard was planted in 2014 with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes and harvested in 2016 which proved to be an exceptional year, giving Simpsons their first ever vintage. Simpsons Wine Estate is a predominately sparkling wine producer and would only make still wines in exceptional years such as 2016.

Sparkling wine goes through 2 fermentations: one to make a still wine, a second to create the bubbles. The estates first sparkling wine will not be ready until late 2018.

Ruth and Charles Simpson, who own Simpsons Wine Estate, have 16 years of winemaking knowledge and expertise following the success and on-going business of their Languedoc winery and vineyards, Domaine Sainte Rose.
