Summer has arrived, or at least technically it has with June marked as the first month of the summer season. There are plenty of events this month starting with Volunteers Week 3rd-9th June. It is a week in which the UK celebrates volunteers and says thank you to them for the contribution that they make. The volunteers at the shop make a huge difference enabling access to groceries and post office services on your door step. We are so grateful for all the diverse jobs our volunteers do, the community shop would not survive without them. We will recognise our Volunteers with our Summer Party on 30th June. There are great social and well-being benefits in becoming a volunteer so why not give it a try. You would be welcome to join the team, just ask in store or email at

Father’s Day is Sunday 16th June, a celebration of dads everywhere and we have plenty in store to help you with gift ideas, both local and from further afield. The range of local bottled beers from Gadds, Curious Brew, Romney Marsh Brewery and Shepherd Neame are popular at this time of year along with London Pride and Old Speckled Hen. There are also plenty of canned lager and ciders too.

New in store is local hand made fudge supplied by the Fudge Kitchen, Canterbury. We have a range of presentation boxes including the Classic range, the Title range, Clotted Cream flavour and Maple and Pecan flavour. They make a wonderful gift and a very tasty special sweet treat.

Product of the Month is local asparagus supplied by Ash based W.L. Laslett and Sons. It’s been flying off the shelf and priced same as last year at £10 per kilo. Five asparagus spears or 80g is considered one of your five a day so for just 80p you can add asparagus to your dinner plate. Don’t forget it’s a short season with availability until end of June

English Wine Week is marked 15th to 23rd June and there are plenty of Kent based options in store including a large range of our local Simpson’s sparkling and still wines along with options from Chapel Down and Biddenden Vineyards

The changes in the shop floor are progressing nicely and hopefully have not caused you too much inconvenience as you shop. There’s more to come so please do bear with us as things progress.
